…you will reap great benefits…

My ballet has improved since taking Awareness Through Movement classes. The coordination of movement and control of my body are noticeably better, although I am not consciously aware of how the transformation has taken place. One must take the class consistently to begin seeing a difference. At first, I decided to stay with the practice because it is so relaxing. Over time, I felt a big difference in my physical abilities. It is not like an exercise class to make you fit or burn calories, although I have picked up movements to incorporate in workouts. Since it seems to the quantitative mind that you are not accomplishing anything during the session, some people may have difficulty to prioritize going to class. Yet the class is extremely productive on a subconscious level of how your brain interacts with your body’s movement. Especially if you would be described as a klutz or injury-prone, you will reap great benefits from a dedicated Feldenkrais practice. Monica is a gentle, patient teacher, but she does sometimes ask you to undertake movements that you don’t like. She lets you modify any exercise as needed. This class will fix things about you that you didn’t think could be improved.

“Regained range of motion”

I suffered for many months from a frozen shoulder and after taking a few weekly Feldenkrais sessions with Monica, I regained range of motion for my right arm and shoulder.  Her private sessions also helped with the work  on my spine and it has reduced lower back discomfort, and lessened hip pain, allowing me to walk with more ease. The Feldenkrais treatment for my feet also has helped me to continue my walking routine and walking enabled me to no longer need inserts in my shoes. I still practice the exercises Monica taught me during my private sessions and they continue to help me keep the benefits noted above.

Improved Posture

Years ago I had heard of the Feldenkrais Method, when Monica Browne offered the class at the Senior Center.

I signed up to find out about it. The class was made aware that movement of any body part surprisingly affects so many other parts. As a result of the gentle exercises my walking posture has improved and loosened up, also many everyday tasks are easier. With continued classes and practice, the new moves will replace the old inefficient, habitual moves that have caused me pain.

Increased Flexibility

I have been taking Monica’s Feldenkrais class faithfully for over 3 years. It has taught me to use my body and brain to ease my nerve pain on my upper thigh and hip. Monica, my teacher, has shown how the body is connected, how an exercise in one part of the body helps another. She teaches the class to use the mind and use gentle exercises to make us more flexible and pain free.

Pain Relief

I am a woman of advanced age who suffers from debilitating pain from fibromyalgia, neck pain and spinal stenosis. Monica Browne’s practice of the Feldenkrais Method has helped me manage my pain that no other doctors or medical practitioners have been able to provide. She is extremely skilled and knowledgeable, but most importantly what Monica provides is the caring and genuine kindness that enables a person in extreme pain to relax, learn a new way to listen to their body, and help you manage pain. When I leave Monica’s class, I am extremely relaxed which relieves my pain greatly, this for me is a miracle.

I Have Less Pain

Monica’s Feldenkrais class has made a big difference in my life, especially with the activities of daily living. I am more aware for the structure of my entire body. Feldenkrais exercises are subtle and gentle movements, they helped me retrain my body and brain to alternative patterns of movement due to pain from a surgery to my right knee. I have less pain, my walking has improved, and I feel happier.
